New Data

The 2020 and 2015 Area Deprivation Index are now live on PolicyMap! The ADI ranks Census block groups on the basis of socioeconomic disadvantage in the areas of income, education, employment, and housing quality. We are now displaying the ADI scores using the color palette and cut points (deciles and quintiles) as specified by the source, the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UWSMPH) Center for Health Disparities Research. We also provide ranks that condense the categories into “very low”, “low”, “moderate”, “high”, and “very high.”

The Diversity Index data has been updated to the latest ACS 5 year time period (2016-2020). This dataset has layers that show:

• Predominant Race/Ethnicity

• Predominant Race/Ethnicity over 50% of the population

• Diversity Index

The Predominant Race/Ethnicity layers show the predominant racial or ethnic group by percentage of the population in the group. The Predominant Race layers show predominant race by percentage of the population in the group, using 7 non-overlapping racial categories. The Diversity Index layer shows the probability that two individuals chosen at random would be of different races or ethnicities on an index of 0 to 87.5. These layers are available to the public at the following Census Geographies: Block Group, Census Tract, City, County and Metro Area

CRA Eligibility and Tract Median Family Income as % of Area Median Family Income from the FFIEC are updated in PolicyMap to 2022. As a reminder, the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) program evaluates lending institutions performance in meeting the credit needs of communities in which they operate and collect deposits - with the intended purpose of encouraging lending in low and moderate-income communities and nonmetro-distressed or underserved areas. The CRA Eligibility layer shows census tracts that meet FFIEC’s definitions of low or moderate income or middle-income distressed and underserved. And the Tract Median Family Income as a % of Area Median Family Income layer is also available as it serves as a primary criteria in determining CRA Eligibility. These layers are some of the more frequently used indicators, particularly by subscribers who are financial institutions.

Also of note, this is the first year that these layers will be displayed at 2020 Census Tract boundaries and the eligibility determinations now rely on underlying income data from the 2016-2020 Census ACS. So this does represent the most substantial change to these layers in PolicyMap in several years.

The point data shows information on school resources such as number of students per teacher and number of available social workers. Much of the data is broken down by race and ethnicity, disability status, and limited English proficiency status.

We added our newly created Racial Homeownership Gap data to PolicyMap, using Census ACS indicators. Data is available at the block group, tract, ztca, county sub, county, and state geographies. The layer has two measurements ratio and a percentage gap for comparison between Non-Hispanic white homeowners and homeowners of a given race/ethnicity. Users can look at the gaps for the following ethnicities/races: Hispanic or Latino, Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, some other race, and two or more races

Please note: The Community Health Centers in this dataset are also known as Federally Qualified Community Health Centers. The distinct dataset on PolicyMap called Federally Qualified Health Centers is superseded by this dataset, and will therefore be removed over the coming months.
